Northern Navajo is a striking 1985 chestnut blanket Appaloosa stallion whose colorful pedigree blends generations of successful RDS show stock with bloodlines tracing entirely to real horses and some of the most influential names in Appaloosa history. Bred by Wildwing Model Horse Stables, he is by 1973 sorrel semi-leopard live and photo show Multi-Champion Northern Sunset and out of 1976 flaxen sorrel hip-blanket Photo Show Multi-Champion and live show winner Navajo Rose. His pedigree is highlighted by ApHC Hall of Fame stallion Absarokee Sunset, a 1958 chestnut blanket noted for an exceptional show career that included National and World Champion Pleasure Horse honors, back-to-back Grand Champion Stallion titles at the National Western Stock Show, and championships in reining and at the Colorado State Fair; and 1967 red leopard ApHC Hall of Fame mare Three Bars Queen, the only known red leopard daughter of legendary Thoroughbred Three Bars and a producer of National Champions, Medallion earners and stakes winners. Three Bars himself was a 1940 chestnut Thoroughbred stakes winner who became one of the most influential sires in American stock-horse history and was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. The maternal side adds another major Appaloosa foundation influence through 1950 dun/buckskin blanket stallion Bright Eyes Brother, a National Western grand champion, sire of World and National champions and 1988 ApHC Hall of Fame inductee, while 1954 blue roan Black Pepper Queen appears behind Three Bars Queen and 1969 Blondie's Britches brings in the historic Navajo Britches family. With additional Thoroughbred influence through 1953 chestnut Shawnee Brave and 1963 Rose Time, herself among the horses inducted into the ApHC Hall of Fame in 1988, Northern Navajo represents an unusually rich combination of early Appaloosa foundation breeding, Thoroughbred speed influence, proven show families and generations of colorful spotted ancestry, making him an especially appealing stallion for a pedigree-focused Appaloosa breeding program.
