The announcement of the Express Year End Awards brought three new champions into Rainbow Dreams Stables' barns this week.

Four year old LIE FOR CASH, purchased at his dam's side in the Flyin Lion Newbie Auction a few years ago, and multi-track champion at Wasatch Downs and Misty River Race Park was presented the Model Clabber Awards - Champion 3yo Colt for his 2001 season. He will continue his racing career in 2002 - he placed 2nd in the Old Sorrel Memorial 3/u 440y at Space City in January but found the 350y Painter Hollow Stakes a bit too short for his tastes. Look for him in classic distance and longer stakes races this summer!

Home-bred five year old PLAUDIT PEGASUS won five out of six stakes starts in 2001 (placing 2nd in his only loss), was named to multiple track championship at Wasatch Downs as well as receiving a 2001 Appaloosa Medallion for the 4/u Horse category. The presentation of the Model Running Appaloosa Awards - Aged Stallion Championship was a fabulous honor to a suburb year! He continues his racing career in 2002, placed 3rd in the October Down's Plaudit's Paprika Stakes in February and winning the Road Runner Bear Garden Stakes last month! He'll likely be retired to stud once he completes his 2002 season.

Last, but definitely not least, we were shocked and delighted when we discovered Egyptian-bred AZALE was named Model Darley Awards - Older Female AND Horse of the Year over some very tough competition! This fine six year old mare was purchased from Abdel Rahim Stud in Egypt and imported to the US in early 2000. Her five year old season was highlighted by four 6-7f stakes wins at Flatirons and October Downs as well as a championship at each track. Original plans were to continue racing her in 2002 but, after a mild injury in January's Serene Boniet Stakes, we decided to retire her. Rumors suggest that she has been bred to RDS' MSW/CH RAFFIKI but no final details have been confirmed.

Rainbow Dreams Stables' owner Beth Gustas was also pleased to be named the Model Darley Awards Owner of the Year!

Congratulations to all winners and nominees - what a tough bunch this year!
