Appaloosas

Pound The Drum - While Pound The Drum, a 1998 bay blanket Appaloosa gelding bred by Cross R Ranch (MI) never proved himself as much of a race horse, he's a much loved addition to the Rainbow Dreams Stables herd. Sired by MSpw Go Wrangler and out of broodmare CRR Rumity Dum Dum, Drummer ran seven starts in his two, three and four years seasons -- his best start was his debut where he placed 4th out of eight and earned a speed index of 82. While we tried several more times to get him to the winner's circle, he simply proved to be too laid back to be a good race horse! Thankfully, his laid back temperment has proven invaluable in working with the youngsters and he made the switch from race horse to pony easily. He can often be found calming our most high-strung youngsters at various race meets and around the farm.

Arabians

MODERN LOVE - Bred by Cross R Ranch (MI), Modern Love is a 1996 chestnut Arabian gelding sired by real Russian sire *Statistic and out of CRR mare *Ghadawi. He proved himself as a STUNNING race horse winning several stakes including the 1-1/2m Al Marah Ibn Indraff Handicap, 1-1/2m Last Chance Handicap, 1-1/4m Staten Island Derby and the 1mT Orazel Handicap. Battled high weights in late 2001, we decide to retire this firey gelding and return him to the farm for show ring training. Since early 2003, he's been competing (with moderate success) in Halter, English Pleasure, Jumping and Dressage events in the Simulated Horse Showing Association.

Mules

Hureo Dash - Hureo Dash is a 1997 bay stock mule john and an RDS home-bred. Several years ago, we decided we wanted to acquire a couple mules to join into the exciting new sport of mule racing! We shipped one of best home-bred Quarter Horse mares, Sheza Dashin Machine, heavy in foal to QH stud MOON DEVIL to Washington-based North by Northwest Farms. There she foaled a beautiful black filly before being bred back to the farm's athletic donkey jack NW Hureo. The following spring, Sheza Dashin Machine presented us with a goofy little bay foal who developed in a fine mule, strong and quick! He was gelded early to prevent studdish behavior and became a cooperative and willing animal. Unfortunately, opportunities to race proved limited but Dash ran four times in late 2000 and 2001, winning twice at 440y & 870y while earning $3430 in his brief career. After it became apparent that no more races were available, we returned Dash to the farm for further training as a riding and driving mule. He enjoys an easy life here at the farm. We occasionally ship him with our racing string to use as a track "pony" but find that flighty outside horses are startled by this strange, long-eared fellow. He's invaluable in training youngsters to deal with equines of all stripes here at the farm. If you're in the area, keep an eye out! He can often be found used as a sure-footed riding animal on local mountain trails or occasionally doning bright colors in local parades.
UPDATE! Due to the revival of mule racing in the Express, Hureo Dash was returned to training in late 2003 to prepare for the early February race meet at Wasatch Downs. He placed a respectable second in a 770y allowance at the 2/14/04 meet and will continue to race (among other pursuits) as races are available.

NOR'WEST CLOUD - Nor'west Cloud is a 1997 loudly spotted molly mule bred by North by Northwest Farms in Washington. She's sired by the real donkey jack Diamond Reo-r who has sired several other racing mules and is out of NNW's stakes-producing Appaloosa mare Webber New Cloud. Delighted by this colorful gal when she was offered at auction, we jumped at the chance to add her to our newly developed mule-racing string. She didn't disappoint! She proved a strong sprinter, winning two of four starts including the Manzanita Mule Scramble 3/u Open Stakes for Mules in late 2000 & 2001, earned $4007 and was named the Manzanita Downs 2000 Mule Champion! Due to a lack of available races, Cloud was returned to the farm to be trained as a riding and driving animal. We attempted to breed her a couple times in hopes of having an extremely rare mule birth but our attempts proved futile. No worries! Cloud is a favorite around the farm -- often used for trail riding and is a feature in local parades and other special events!
UPDATE! We also brought back our colorful champion for the return of mule racing at Wasatch Downs on 2/14/04 and, once again, she didn't disappoint! Cloud proved she "still has it" with a fine stakes win over four other runners in the 400y Braying Stakes. She's continue to race as events are available.

Paints

Black Sun - Not only was Black Sun one of our first Express YEA Champions, he was our very first HOMEBRED EYA Champion! This 1997 black tobiano Paint gelding is sired by stakes winner sire CLINT BLACK and out of our race-bred Thoroughbred mare Wintersun, an EXCELLER-r grand-daughter. Sunny raced in 1999 and 2000, but didn't really excel until we gelding him in June of 2000. He came back strong after the gelding to break his maiden at 400y, placed third in 550y Starway Park Sophomore Paint Championship and was named the 2000 Starway Park Paint Gelding of the Year. These accomplishments (and limited competition) helped him nab the 2000 Express Year End Award Model Running Paint Award Champion 3yo Gelding title! He retired to the farm at the end of 2000 and was trained as a riding horse. He's competed successfully in the Simulated Horse Showing Association earning several blue ribbons in Halter, Western Pleasure, Barrel Racing and Pole Bending.

Infinite Jest - A home-bred 1998 bay tobiano Paint gelding, Infinite Jest ran eight times over three years (2000-2002) under the Rainbow Dreams Stables' color. He won twice as a 2yo - both at 300y over the Space City track but never showed much enthuaism for racing as he got a little older. We retired him sound after one start as a 4yo and he's converted easily to the job of track pony and riding companion. He does have a "body" (1999 JAH SR "Special Delivery" on the Cigar mold) and will eventually have a photo showing career.

Sugared Image - Sugared Image (Indians Image-r x Sugars So Easy, Easy Jet Too-r), a home-bred 1997 bay tobiano Paint colt was a gutsy runner for Rainbow Dreams Stables, establishing a race record of 16 (2 5 1 1) $8608 si-98 alw wnr with wins at 440y and 550y. Sadly, he ran an uncharacteristically poor race in June of 2003 and post-race x-rays revealed a hairline fracture just above his ankle on his left fore leg. We sent him home to the farm for recover and began retraining as a riding horse in the spring of 2004.

Versary Request - Versary Request is a Flyin Lion Stables (TX)-bred 1998 bay overo Paint gelding sired by Versary Jr. and out of TB mare Wynn's Request. He raced five times in 2000 and 2001, broke his maiden at 220 yards and earned a speed index of 88. Unfortunately, he suffered a tendon injury just after he broke his maiden and, after a long recovery back at the farm, we decided to retrain him as a track pony and pleasure horse. He's proven to be an invaluable member of our backside "staff" and has definitely earned his place here at Rainbow Dreams Stables.

Other Paint Horse Retirees:

  • Piemur PRR#2031 (Splashdown x Harper Drums TB), 2001 bay tobiano Paint colt
    Lifetime Race Record: 18 (3 3 3 2) $9485 si-98 Spw - won @ 350y, 550y & 660y, retired November 2005

Quarter Horses

Dashing Wrangler - A stunning black gelding (1999 homebred by Azure Wrangler ex Marys Dash, Reckless Dash-r), Dashing Wrangler accumulated a record of 12 (1 0 4 3) $3410 si-95 mdn wnr over three years of racing (2001-2003). He won at 440y and was a Gelding Bronze Medal Winner in 2002, his 3yo season. He struggled through his 4yo season and we offered him for sale hoping that another trainer might be able to bring him back to form but no one wanted to try. We've retired him to our farm and are retraining him as a track pony and pleasure horse. He may have a career as a Simulated Show Horse in his future!

Other Quarter Horse Retirees:

  • Ever Flyin QRR#2740 (Strawflyin Buds-r x Ever Golden), 2000 sorrel QH colt
    Lifetime Race Record: 13 (1 2 0 2) $4240 si-87 mdn wnr @ 330y, retired October 2004
  • Rara Avis QRR#4903 (Rampion TB x Tontos Sugar Bar), 2001 classic champagne QH colt
    Lifetime Race Record: 13 (0 2 1 3) $2295 si-83 plcd @ 250y & 870y(x2), retired January 2005

Standardbreds

Juvenile Delinquent - Juvenile Deliquent is 1998 chestnut Standardbred trotter gelding (bred by Cross R Ranch, MI) who raced for a little over four years (2000-2004) and earned a record of 27 (2 2 5 5) $23,650 MSpw LM 4,1:58.2. He was named 2002 Gelding Silver Medal Winner and placed in three stakes including the 2002 East Enders Stakes (Buckeye Downs), 2002 Ashton Trot FFA (Colonial Downs), and the 2003 Avarclon Stakes (Evergreen Downs). Always a game competitor, he was uncharacteristically uninterested in his first couple starts of 2004 so we made the decision to retire him. He's currently at our farm in retraining and should make a fine harness and please horse.

Tragady - Tragady ran in the Express realistic racing group from 2002 through January 2005. In twenty starts, he earned a lifemark of p,4,1:56.2, won three races including a maiden and two condition efforts and placed 2nd in an elimination heat for the Tulip City Pace. (In Standardbred race, elimination heats for stakes races are considered stakes races.) Unfortunately, he never loved racing so after a lackluster start in January 2005 we retired him to our IPABRA pedigree assignment program. What he lacks in competitive spirit is made up for with a willing attitude and tractable personality -- he should make a fine sire for other non-competitive Standardbreds. He had a "body" and we're looking for to showing him.

Other Standardbred Retirees:

  • Blue Swept SRR#3228 (Caribbean Blue x Swept Away) 2001 brown Standardbred pacer gelding
    Lifetime Race Record: 23 (4 3 5 7) $22,390 cond wnr LM p,3,1:56.3 NTR, retired October 2007 & retrained as pleasure mount
  • Mission In A Jiffy SRR#4240 (Village Jiffy-r x Girl On A Mission), 2001 bay Standardbred pacer colt
    Lifetime Race Record: 8 (0 0 1 3) $1294, retired due to injury August 2004
  • Nasty Hex SRR#2673 (Two Hex Rex x Nasty Royalty)m 1999 chestnut Standardbred trotter gelding
    Lifetime Race Record: 18 (3 6 3 1) $25,560 Spw/CH/Gelding Gold Medal Winner LM 4,1:58.1 EWR, retired October 2004 & retrained as trail horse
  • Reynaud Falcon SRR#3194 (Reynaud x Falcon Kathy) 2001 bay Standardbred pacer colt
    Lifetime Race Record: 10 (0 1 2 2) $1285, retired due to injury October 2004

Thoroughbreds

Conversation - Conversation sure stirred up a lot of talk which he blasted onto the scene late in his 2yo season to break his maiden at 1-1/8m at Amsterdam in his very first start, pulling away from the field by nearly 15 lengths and setting a new track record in the process. Unfortunately, while he proved a solid runner who always earned his oats, his final record never lived up to the promise of that first start. Racing through age six (2000-2004), he earned a respectable record of 27 (5 4 6 5) $235,000 rSW/G3Sp, had wins from 9-14f on both dirt & turf and was named 2002 Blue Rose Co-Top Allowance Horse (Male) at age four. He won the Herbert Youngbeck Memorial Handicap (N2S) 3/u 1-3/4mT at Lakeshore Park in November 2003 and placed 3rd in the Tangerine S (G3) 3/u 2-1/16m at Rainbow Downs in May of 2004. While we may do a couple test breedings to our racebred mares, his record doesn't earn him a fulltime spot in our MRF stud row. Instead, we'll focus on his career as a performance horse sire and he may show in the Simulated Show Horse Association or get a body for the model horse show scene.

Desert Stand - Desert Stand ran in the Model Racing Forum realistic racing group from 2000 through 2004, ages two through five years, and earned a race record of 24 (2 3 4 2) $188,900 MSpw/CH. He was a winner at 1-1/8m and 1-3/16m and placed in three stakes races (2nd: IOR Sir Barton Stakes 8.5f, 2002 Greenwood; 3rd: Jack Frost Stakes 1-1/4m, 2002 Rainbow Downs and Hidden Staircase Stakes 1-1/4m, 2003 Rainbow Downs). He also claimed the Champion 3yo Colt/Gelding title in 2002 at Rainbow Downs. Despite his championship, we think he'd be better used a sport horse sire in our non-racing program though we may breed him to a few of our own mares for use on the MRF tracks. Future show plans are still pending (he might get a "body" or could show in the paper ponies group) but he should also prove himself as a fine sport horse sire.

Mad For Plaid - A game race horse, Mad For Plaid ran in the Model Racing Forum realistic racing group from 2000 through 2004, ages two through six years, and earned a race record of 23 (2 6 2 4) $63,100 G3Spw. He started in the U.S. as a two year old, but was shipped to Europe as a three year old and raced there for the the rest of his career. He broke his maiden at the 7.5fT in his three year old year and picked up a handicap win at 8fT as well as a third place finish in the Group 3 Prix Gladiateur 15-1/2fT in his five year old season. He always gave his all in his starts and proved a sound willing runner, but simply didn't accumulate the record to justify a spot in our racing breeding program. Future show plans are still pending (he might get a "body" or could show in the paper ponies group) but he should also prove himself as a fine sport horse sire.

Maginot - Maginot is a 1997 dark bay Thoroughbred horse who was bred by Ringsend Farms, CA. Maginot ran in the MRF from 1999 through 2002, ages two through five years. He earned a race record of 19 (1 1 3 8) $29,500 and was a maiden winner at one mile on the turf. While he proved a willing and eager runner, his record didn't earn him a place in our race horse breeding program. He's an athletic horse with a beautiful temperment and should be a strong sport horse sire. He's currently in training for the English events in the Simulated Show Horse Association and we're looking forward to "showing" him!

Theatre - Theatre ran in the Model Racing Forum realistic racing group from 2001 through 2004, ages two through five years. He earned a race record of 25 (2 7 4 5) $153,950 alw wnr and was a two time winner at 1-1/8m on the turf. While he proved willing and consistent on the track, his record doesn't earn him a place in our MRF TB breeding program. We've retired him to our show barn and expect he'll make a fine performance horse sire. While future plans are still pending, he may also prove a solid addition to our simulated show horse string and may eventually earn a "body" for model horse showing.

Vamouse [GB] - Vamouse ran in the Model Racing Forum realistic racing group from 2001 through 2004, ages two through five years. He earned a race record of 14 (2 1 1 6) $35,850, winning an 8fT maiden and an 11fT handicap race in International Racing. A tough willing runner, his record simply didn't earn him a place in our race horse breeding program. We plan on registering him in the Simulated Show Horse Association and he may even eventually get a "body" for photo and live shows. We're offering currently offering him as a sport horse sire in our pedigree assignment herd.
