Durango Frost is a striking 1990 black leopard Appaloosa stallion whose pedigree traces entirely to real horses and combines generations of proven Appaloosa show blood with outstanding Quarter Horse racing and performance influences. By 1986 black semi-leopard Live Show Reserve Grand Champion and proven sire Durango Chief and out of 1976 red bay blanket stakes producer Red Frosty, he traces through his sire to 1964 Mighty Marshall, a son of influential Mighty Bright who earned both National halter and World western pleasure championships, and through 1967 Wapiti's Plaudette to legendary Appaloosa sire and ApHC Hall of Famer Wapiti. His paternal Quarter Horse blood is equally distinguished through 1965 black Diamond Duro, an AAAT/SI-100 Race ROM performer who became both an AQHA Champion and Supreme Champion and went on to sire numerous point earners, ROM performers and AQHA Champions. Durango Frost's maternal side adds the blood of 1970 sorrel Spoonful A Sugar, a son of 1951 sorrel AQHA Hall of Famer Sugar Bars, an AAA/Race ROM runner and enormously influential sire of race and performance horses, while Spoonful A Sugar's 1959 sorrel dam Roja Wasp brings additional old Quarter Horse breeding. The lower half of the pedigree continues through 1962 chestnut Quarter Horse War Treasure and RS Navajo Frosty, apparently a 1961 Appaloosa by foundation-bred Navajo Ashkee out of Freckles Ginger; Navajo Ashkee was a 1956 bay spotted-blanket stallion whose pedigree traces through Don Dee and Red Princess into some of the early registered Appaloosa families. With a sire already proven capable of producing stakes winners and show champions and a dam who produced multiple winners, a multiple stakes winner, a stakes sire and a stakes producer, Durango Frost represents an especially attractive blend of Appaloosa color and versatility, proven performance ability, speed and productive bloodlines.
