Notes: One of my early pedigree assignment projects, Dude's Free Spirit was originally out of OMA's buckskin mare Icy Lass. Later, I learned that a bay stallion and a buckskin mare could not produce a red dun foal, and with guidance from Ryan Jaeger, I was able to update her pedigree with a more appropriate dun dam. In hindsight, she probably should have included some sorrel or chestnut influence as well, but I've chosen to "grandfather in" this mare in as a reflection of our more limited understanding of color genetics at the time. She was first represented by an Original Finish Breyer Traditional Indian Pony Special Run from the 1988 JCPenney Holiday Catalog. Shown in photo shows with some success-earning a Merit Award with TABMHCSC, though most specific records are now lost-this model horse has since been sold, and the mare remains as a breeding-stock only identity.
